Found that some of them are my acquaintances, and others are mostly people I know from journal papers, meaning that they are highly active in academic society. One of my primary responsibilities is to maintain close ties between the social forces and JNU. It is also important for me to use the forces to attract funding sources to the Department of Chemical Engineering at JNU so that we can support our graduate students. Money for salary is the main motivator for attracting funding sources.
Spent the whole day on the meeting. By doing that, lost one day to work on manuscript preparation and discussion. That means we are delayed by one day. For us, it is such a loss. It seems to me that things are pretty much different for others because they have a well-developed system that does not require the direction or decision of the principal investigator every moment. Could see that they really enjoyed their social activities. Of course, it's my fault that I couldn't build this system in 9 years.
Don't know yet which one weighs more, competitiveness or social forces. So have to assess which one is more important at every moment: writing, teaching, meeting, or trip. Argh....
